Pretty Skin Pumpkin Smoothie

October is one of our favorite months! Sure, the turning of the leaves and cooler temperatures are great. But let’s face it – it’s all about the pumpkin! Pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie and even pumpkin lattes. The options are endless and mouthwatering.

Fall’s signature squash also packs some healthy perks (assuming it’s not pie!). Pumpkins are an often-overlooked source of fiber with three grams per cup and only 49 calories.

Pumpkins are also rich in carotenoids, the compounds that give the gourd their bright orange color, including beta-carotene, which the body converts into a form of vitamin A. Vitamin A is required for the proper development and functioning of our eyes, immune system and skin.

Pumpkin Loves Your Skin

In fact, Vitamin A is very helpful for skin conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis and wounds. And speaking of skin, Health magazine reported that the same free-radical-neutralizing powers of carotenoids found in pumpkin might also help keep skin wrinkle-free. What a bargain!

With all of these skin benefits, we just had to share our yummy pumpkin smoothie recipe.

Pumpkin Smoothie Recipe:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • ½ cup vanilla Greek Yogurt
  • ½ cup of almond milk
  • 2 Tablespoons of honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 scoop of protein powder (optional)
  • 2/3 cup of Pumpkin Pie Mix (or use Pumpkin Puree and add ¼ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice)
  • 1 cup of ice

Add all of the ingredients to a blender in the order listed. Blend on high for at least 3 minutes or until smooth - this may take longer if your blender isn't very strong. Scrape down the sides of the blender as needed.

Add more milk to thin out if it is too thick. Add a couple more ice cubes for a thicker texture, if desired. Add more spices to taste, if desired.
