Alternative Sweets for Halloween Trick-or-Treaters

Posted on

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means kids are about to be filling up plastic pumpkins and pillowcases with highly processed and sugary candies, guaranteed to wreak havoc on tummies and skin alike. It's also a ton of extra calories in your kids diet! For instance, did you know that the average trick or treater consumes 3 cups of sugar on Halloween. That’s equivalent to 220 sugar packets, which add up to an average of 7000 calories - the same as 13 Big Macs. While there’s no way to control what others are giving to the kids in your neighborhood, you can stock up on less-sugary and more natural goodies or fun “treasures” to hand out this Halloween. Here are a few of our favorite alternatives to traditional candy:

1) Organic apple sauce packs or juice boxes

2) Whole foods bars or organic granola/breakfast bars

3) Dried veggie chips or sticks

4) Snack sized bags of organic cookies such as one’s from Annie’s or Barbara’s Bakery

5) Small boxes of organic dried fruit

6) Individual packs of Pirate’s Booty

7) Sugar-free chewing gum

8) Temporary tattoos

9) Mini Halloween themed cookie cutters

10) Halloween theme adhesive bandages

11) Packs of crayons

12) Halloween themed sticker packs

13) Pocket toys & games like a yo-yo or rubix cube

14) Sidewalk chalk

15) Finger Puppets

Do you have any go-to healthy or alternative Halloween treats that you hand out? We’d love for you to share in the comments! And, of course, have a happy and safe Halloween!
